Cava Grande
The Cava Grande del Cassibile nature reserve is a 2760 hectare wide area between the towns of Avola, Noto and Siracusa. The reserve includes 10 Km of the Cassibile river. It's one of the most important rivers of south-east Sicily and flows through a 250 m deep canyon with a rich vegetation.
Inside this canyon it's possible to see a lot of typical sicilian plants (plane trees, willows, oleanders, ivy, fern), fauna (dragonflies, butterflies, hedgfehogs, porcupines, foxes, blackcaps, hawks, herons, snakes), geological characteristics and archaeological areas.
Cava Grande is to suggest for those who like easy walks through the woods but also for those who like difficult trekking routes, for those who like panoramas, nature or archaeology.
